East Cleveland Ohio U.S.A. – “Hoop Gardens” have invaded the City of East Cleveland just like the weeds growing in all but one of these ten thousand dollars projects.
The whole idea of having home grown produce being made available for city residents thrilled many people in East Cleveland. As the plastic structures started going up two years ago it seemed feasible way to get produce and fruits fresh and at a reasonable cost.
The United States Department of Agriculture gives urban farmers a ten thousand dollar stipend to build and farm the gardens.
HOWEVER in the case of East Cleveland and under the direction of Mayor Gary Norton Jr. and his trusty sidekick Michael Smedley this program is completely out of control. They have constructed these aluminum and plastic structures everywhere they could in East Cleveland.
Many of these gardens never had a seed planted and are in shambles becoming another eyesore in EC. Residents are highly upset at how Mayor Norton allowed this to happen and as even endorsed the program. Who actually got and kept the money from this federal program? Where are they now?
Now repeated complaints to the USDA Attorney General to conduct an investigation into this matter have not happened despite local television media and this site filing requests for help.
Now the matter is up to the people of East Cleveland to contact Congresswoman Marcia Fudge through her website or just by calling the office number to complain. (216) 522-4900.
To file a complaint with the USDA Attorney General’s Office – HOTLINE and file a complaint in addition to calling and asking why there are over fourteen hoop gardens in this small city and no crops other than weeds and junk.
